This one’s a deep cut, baby. Alpha Cat aka Elizabeth McCullough first rose to prominence on the college rock scene with the 2001 release. Pear harbor. This album, which was produced by art-punk Television legends Fred Smith, was a daring mix of folk, no wave and space music. The result was a deeply personal, and deeply strange, album that walked between real and surreal worlds. Although the release was a “record buzz” in the college scene, following the release of the LP, McCullough more or less disappeared from the music scene. You could make a comparison to Neutral Milk Hotel, but Alpha Cat is a little more gothy and a lot more raw.

Now, some 20 years later, Alpha Cat is reissuing the album as Pear Harbor 2020. The new version is remastered and has a few bonus tracks, including the never released before “(something to do with…) Spring.”

McCullough told Punknews about the track, “This may be the only pure and innocent love song I’ve ever recorded! A story that didn’t quite end well, but with the help of Mike Shapiro, I think together we have captured the essence of a journey through the challenges of our past lives to a place where difficulties are resolved, oppositions are connected and ghosts are banished. finds the lotus flower, which grows from the mud to keep the promise of its beauty, and the Ace of Cups in the tarot, the beginning, the seed of pure and unconditional love. A song written very early in my career of ‘writing and recording it was recorded on 4 track cassette then the stereo cassette mix was mastered by my genius collaboration partner Brett Thorngren.
