According to a New York Times database, 16 states reported a single-day record of new cases on Friday: Iowa, Kentucky, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Montana, Illinois, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Oregon, Kansas, Ohio, Colorado and Maine .
Fourteen States also reported their highest number of hospitalizations for Covid-19 on Friday, as more than 46,000 Americans are currently hospitalized with the virus (an increase of more than 50% since the end of September).
The total number of infections in the United States has skyrocketed 9 million Friday, just 14 days after the country reported its 8th million cases.

According to Reuters, the number of daily infections recorded over the past two days indicates that the United States is now reporting more than one new case per second.

Some 970 people died on Friday, with three states (Tennessee, Montana and New Mexico) setting records in Covid-19 death.
