Ron is also appealing for exemption from personal appearance in court

A Dhaka court extended the bail of Sikder Group CEO Ron Haque Sikder until April 11.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury adopted the ordinance on Wednesday.

Ron has also appealed for the exemption from personal appearance in court and hopes to be represented by his attorney.

The court fixed the same date for the hearing of the motions, one for the exemption from personal appearance, the other for the cancellation of the bond.

The prosecution had previously appealed the revocation of his bond on the grounds that Ron and his brother Dipu Haque Sikder kidnapped, tortured and shot two Exim bank officials after refusing to authorize a Tk 500 crore loan .

Police Detective Directorate (DB) arrested him on the morning of February 12 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, shortly after he landed here from Dubai to attend his father’s funeral. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asheq Imam granted him bail in the case on the same day.

On May 7 last year, the brothers reportedly tortured and threatened with murder Exim’s managing director, Haider Ali Mia, and additional managing director, Md Firoz Hossain.

They allegedly shot senior bank executives when they refused to overvalue their mortgaged property for a Tk 500 crore loan.

The bank opened a deal on May 19. National Bank Limited, a Sikder Group company, denied the allegations through their attorney, saying the case was filed to defame them socially.

Ron and Dipu fled to Thailand by air ambulance on May 25.
