Residential sectors in Greater Noida should be changed to numbers such as Sectors 1, 2 and 3 replacing the current Greek letters such as ‘Alpha‘, ‘Beta’, ‘Delta’ and ‘Omicron’.
Officials said there was a request from some of the residents to rename the areas and the Greater Noida Local Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) formed a committee to make the decision, PTI reported.
It was reported that a meeting was convened on March 31 by GNIDA CEO Narendra Bhooshan with senior Authority officials to discuss the matter and gave “approval in principle” to the proposal.
At the meeting, it was discussed and decided that the special committee headed by the additional CEO Deep Chandra will receive suggestions and feedback from the residents regarding the renaming of the sectors.
Bhooshan ordered the committee to submit its report at the earliest.
Notably, the World Health Organization (WHO) has also used Greek alphabets like “Delta” and “Omicron” to name variants of the coronavirus.
GNIDA said that the names of residential sectors in Greater Noida may be changed soon. Instead of Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, etc., sectors would be renamed by numbers like one, two, three, and four. Furthermore, he mentioned that the authority has set up a committee to implement this proposal. The final decision will be made after the committee takes suggestions from Greater Noida residents.
The move comes after 30 years, as in 1991 when Greater Noida was formed, the sectors were named in Greek words such as Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Omicron, Mu, Zu, Chai-Fi, Pai, etc. . while 1, 2 and 3 have been appended to these names.
However, there are also sectors with names in the form of numbers like 1, 2, 3 and others in the western part of Greater Noida known as Greater Noida (West) or Noida Extension.
Thus, a GNIDA official in the report said, “Because of this, there is a lot of confusion in writing, speaking and understanding the names of the sectors. The location of these sectors is not Bearing this in mind, the Authority is considering changing the names of these sectors.”
In addition, the officials said that it was decided that all industrial sectors would be called “Ecotech” and that the names of the institutional and IT sectors would remain the same as Knowledge Park 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. .
Also, the officials mentioned that “all ‘Techzone’ names will be removed while residential sector names will be with numerical numbers like Sector-One, Two, Three, Four.
After the implementation of the decision, on the lease deed of the property, along with the new name, officials also said that the old name will also be written in brackets to avoid confusion. (With contributions from the Agency).
