The maximum upward pressure on the current index came from the miscellaneous group contributing 0.08 percentage point to the total change.

At item level, cow’s milk, cow’s milk, mustard oil, palm oil, soybean oil, almond, white sugar, tea leaf, gas costs, hospital / retirement home costs, gasoline for the vehicle and toilet soap, are responsible for the increase in the index.

However, this increase was largely held back by rice, eggs (hen), fresh fish, poultry / chicken, apple, banana, guava, mausami, bitter gourd, cucumber, drumstick , green beans, scapula, onion and potato, putting downward pressure on the index.

At the central level, Ludhiana recorded the biggest increase of 3.5 points followed by Jalpaiguri, Guwahati, Jalandhar and Munger-Jamalpur with 2.9 points, 2.6 points, 2.1 points and 2.0 points respectively. Among others, 11 centers observed an increase between 1 and 1.9 points and 33 centers between 0.1 and 0.9 points.

On the contrary, Coonoor recorded the biggest drop of 5.5 points, followed by Tirunelveli with 2.2 points. Among others, 5 centers observed a drop between 1 and 1.9 point and 26 centers between 0.1 and 0.9 point. The rest of the six centers remained stationary.

DPS Negi, senior adviser to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, said in the statement that the consumer price index for industrial workers across India for August 2021 rose to 123 points, from 122 , 8 points for July 2021.
