Register with a Texas doomsday preparer before the election

Election Day has turned into something of a holiday for some doomsday planners – one of the many potential days of the year the world might end. A few Texans take the prospect of post-election civil unrest seriously, even though most of the country does not. These local survivalists are ready for any apocalypse.

Better to be safe in a bunker than to be cured.

Chron spoke to a Texas business owner who provided insight into the world of doomsday pickers. Atlas survival shelters Sulfur Springs, Texas-based owner Ron Hubbard shared his take on the build-up ahead of Election Day.

Chron: You crouched in a bunker near Victoria, Texas, around the time of the end of the Mayan calendar, December 21, 2012. What is it like to experience a bunker in one of those underground escapes? ?

Hubbard: Boring. You watch old episodes of “Two and Half Men”. You have cameras, so monitors are your windows to the outside. It’s like being stuck in a hotel room without going through the hallway for ice cream.

What are some Texans telling you about their fears and preparation for election day? Has business picked up in recent weeks?

Hubbard: Most Americans believe we are headed for a civil war. Every day, I receive between five and ten customers who call.

Those who have not prepared will walk around like zombies, looking for food and water and could get shot. Complete chaos will ensue. People will fight over food, supplies and medicine. It will be something of a movie. Hopefully this never happens, but the chances of it happening are around 100%.

So what’s the first step, Plan B for Americans bracing for the potential for post-election turmoil?

Hubbard: If this escalates into a civil war, people just want a place to get the hell out of Dodge. They just want a place to weather the storm. They want to protect their families and they want to put them out of harm’s way. They are some of the nicest and most educated elite people, and they are preparing for this bad day. They think that day could be as early as January, December.

Are COVID-19 concerns driving the need to downsize the bunker?

Hubbard: They’re not getting the bunkers because of COVID-19. They get bunkers for the future because things look so dodgy.

What if you don’t have the money to build a bunker right now? What are some survival tips for staying prepared?

Hubbard: I will have food for long-term survival, and you have a way to purify the water. People need a real book on survival and how to do things because the internet will be down.

What are your personal fears before election day?

Hubbard: It’s frightening. I would rather be a poor man in a safe country with peace and love than be a rich man in a crumbling country where money means nothing. The only thing that means anything is water, food, and fuel.
