Pi Kappa Alpha’s FireFighter Challenge Benefits Indiana Burn Victims and Promotes FSL Unity | Characteristics

This year’s FireFighter Challenge philanthropic event, hosted by Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE), was held on September 19 at the West Lawn from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The whole PIKE chapter helps organize this light charity competition with obstacles on the theme of firefighting.

Participation was open to anyone, as long as individuals form teams of four, donate $ 20 per team, and come out and compete. There was no Fellowship and Sisterhood membership requirement, and freshmen were encouraged to come out and participate. While there has been a built-in donation of $ 5 per person, individuals are encouraged to donate more through the Chapter’s Venmo account.

Most of the proceeds from the event will go to Hoosier Burn Camp, a non-profit organization that helps treat burn victims throughout the state of Indiana. The remaining funds will go to the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department.

“Everyone is welcome to come and participate, to donate however you see fit,” said Carter Puckett, fraternity president, ahead of the event. “Any support is welcome. We are very happy to restart this event. Slowly return to the situation before COVID. See the community together.

Puckett is in his eighth semester as a fellowship member. Puckett is a natural leader and has held several leadership positions. He started as secretary, moved on to vice president of new member development and currently serves as chapter president.

“[I am] not necessarily “the” leader, we have a lot of good guys, great leaders, ”Puckett said, when asked about his leadership.

The philanthropy event comes weeks after the Chapter announced the development of their new property on Union Street. No proceeds from this event will go towards this housing project, but the gentlemen of Pi Kappa Alpha are really hoping to show their leadership at the event in the hope that alumni will notice their dedication.

“We’re excited, it’s great to see these things come together. It’s been a long journey, ”Puckett says.

Anyone interested in joining the fellowship, learning more about donating to the housing project, or getting involved in the philanthropic event is encouraged to contact Carter Puckett directly at his email address at the University of Valparaiso, Carter .puckett @ valpo.edu, or his president email. , [email protected].

“The goal of the Epsilon Beta chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha is to exceed expectations in all respects, in acquiring knowledge, in developing leadership in our community, in winning the battlefields of athletics and development of our fellowship, while having the characteristics of humble, respectful and trusting gentlemen, ”their website indicates.
