As a thank you and recognition to members of the United States Armed Forces, Richmond University Medical Center runs a Veterans VIP Program, offering exclusive discounts and benefits to veterans seeking care at West Brighton Hospital or its three primary care sites across the borough. .

Active, retired or reservists can register for the program free of charge.

“This program is our way of telling veterans that everyone at RUMC thanks them for their service to our country,” said President and CEO Daniel J. Messina. “We worked closely with veterans organizations on Staten Island in developing this program. We wanted to make sure we included benefits that would ensure that veterans who access our facilities feel like family when receiving care. “

Program benefits include same-day scheduling at RUMC’s three immediate / primary care / walk-in centers, free parking at the main hospital, free in-room TV and / or phone service patients, upon admission, free access to a private maternity room, based on availability and discounts at the hospital gift shop and Starbucks.

RUMC’s three immediate / primary care / walk-in centers are located at 1161 Victory Blvd., Sunnyside, 1058 Forest Ave., West Brighton, and 4360 Hylan Blvd., Eltingville.

Members of the VIP program will also receive special invitations to the hospital’s golf outing, annual gala and other special events. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, most events will unfold virtually.

A 24/7 behavioral health hotline has also been set up to help veterans who may need support for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or any behavioral health issue.

Veterans do not need to be registered in the VIP program to access the hotline. The hotline number is 718 818-6300 and is printed on all VIP membership cards.

“According to the 2019 National Veterans Suicide Prevention Annual Report from the Department of Veterans Affairs, approximately 17 military veterans commit suicide each day,” Messina said. “The University of Richmond Medical Center is Staten Island’s primary provider of behavioral health services for adults, adolescents and children. Our experienced experts are available every day, anytime, to assist anyone in need of immediate help. You are not alone, we are here for you.

Veterans can register for the VIP program on the RUMC website at rumcsi.org/militaryvipprogram.

After completing the online form, veterans will also be required to provide proof of service, such as a valid driver’s license with veteran designation, DD214 or VA health care card, or membership card. ‘a current veterans organization, such as the VFW or the American Legion.
