GADVASU launches a mobile application and organizes a monthly seminar for dairy farmers

Launch of the GADVASU mobile application

A monthly seminar for dairy farmers was held at the Silver Jubilee Auditorium of the Guru Angad Dev University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Ludhiana, attended by office members and farmers associated with the Progressive Livestock Farmers Association (PLFA).

Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, was the chief guest of the function. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education and Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, President of PLFA also graced the occasion.

The Vice Chancellor in his keynote address highlighted the importance of milk marketing for a profitable dairy business. He further underlined the need and scope for integrated farming systems to increase farmers’ incomes. He pointed out that to get a better yield, it is necessary to prevent diseases from entering the farm through proper vaccination.

GADVASU services: mobile application for dairy producers

A mobile application named “GADVASU Services” has been released by the main guest. The “app” was developed by Dr. Amandeep Singh, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Parkash Singh Brar.

This application contains information on all the services provided by the University to the different actors involved in the livestock sector. During the seminar, the main guest highlighted the role of modern technologies in reaching pastoralists.

Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, hoodVeterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education spoke about abortions in dairy animals while Dr Charanjit Singh Randhawa, hoodDepartment of Veterinary Medicine discussed various strategies to counter the threat of communicable diseases among dairy animals. Bayer Crop Sciences, a private company, sponsored this seminar and their representatives spoke about their maize varieties for silage.

Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, President of PLFA thanked the University for organizing the seminar and said that their association with the University has always brought fruitful results for the benefit of the breeders.
