Mumbai: Former chief executive and CEO of Mahindra Electric, Mahesh Babu, has joined Hinduja Group’s electric vehicle arm, Switch Mobility, in senior positions, according to a statement.

Babu has been appointed with immediate effect as COO of the UK-based EV branch of Switch Mobility Ltd and CEO of Switch Mobility India, the company said in a statement.

Switch Mobility was formed by combining the electric utility vehicle businesses of Ashok Leyland in India and Optare in the UK to secure a global leadership position in zero carbon buses and light commercial vehicles.

“I am delighted to announce this appointment as Mahesh brings over 25 years of experience to Switch and his expertise as CEO and track record as a pioneer in electric vehicles is well known.

“He joins a strong leadership team and I look forward to working closely with him to realize our ambition to deliver zero carbon van and bus solutions globally and to achieve our aggressive sustainability at Switch, ”said Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Switch Mobility Ltd.

Babu, who will be making his second stint within the Group, has more than 25 years of experience in mobility.

Using the combined expertise of its teams in the UK and India, Switch Mobility will build on its experience of having more than 280 electric vehicles in service with more than 26 million kilometers driven, the company said in the communicated.
