In case you didn’t know, Activision created a surprise yesterday by announcing that Call of Duty Vanguard would be getting alpha testing this week, on PlayStation platforms! Well the alpha pre-loads and is live now! While we can’t play the game yet, as the servers are still down, it looks like the alpha client options menu can be accessed with a bit of maneuvering, which has revealed some important details such as the return of the doors, the tactical sprint and Sequel.
As you can see in the image below, you can see “door bash interacton” in the options menu, which should be familiar to Modern Warfare 2019 players.
Another part of the options screen shows the toggle for Tactical Sprint, Weapon Mount, Cloak.
While the doors might seem like a small thing, they helped a lot when camping in Modern Warfare since they were indestructible. Hopefully Vanguard’s doors aren’t immune to bullets and explosions.
Those unfamiliar with the Tac Sprint gameplay mechanic, Tactical Sprint was introduced in Modern Warfare 2019, and it allowed players to run much faster than regular sprinting, but just for a short burst. As for weapon mounting, this too was introduced in Modern Warfare 2019 and gave players the ability to mount weapons to significantly reduce recoil. I guess of the items mentioned this one (weapon mounting) is the most controversial as it made camping much more viable given that you had virtually no recoil when you had weapons mounted.
One thing that is not visible in the options menu is an FOV (field of view) slider. We don’t know if we’ll see this coming out in the full game, as Modern Warfare never got it. In case you were wondering why there are a lot of similarities to Modern Warfare and Vanguard, it’s because Vanguard runs on the same game engine as MW 2019. So if you liked the feel and the shooter of the Infinity Ward’s latest game, so chances are, you’ll like Vanguard’s as well.
On top of that, the Alpha intro also surfaced! Players can trigger it by taking their PS4 / PS5 offline, and you’ll see the whole intro sequence play out, which we tried out ourselves, and it works! Here’s the cutscene in case you don’t want to go through all of that trouble:
The alpha COD Vanguard will be live this weekend, and you can find out more about the mode and schedule here.
Call of Duty Vanguard releases this November 5 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC.
