CIMB Wins Three Major Awards at Alpha Southeast Asia Best Islamic Finance Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd and CIMB Investment Bank Bhd won three major awards at the 13th edition of the Alpha Southeast Asia Best Islamic Finance Awards 2021.

In a statement released on Monday, the CIMB said the awards were given to the best Islamic finance bank, the best global Islamic finance sukuk house and the best Islamic finance sukuk house in Malaysia.

This is the third year in a row that CIMB has been named Malaysia’s best Islamic finance sukuk house.

Recently, CIMB was also named the best Sukuk Bank by Global Finance globally at the 2021 World’s Best Islamic Financial Institutions Awards.

CIMB Islamic CEO Ahmad Shahriman Mohd Shariff said: “These awards are a tribute to the support of CIMB clients, without whom we would not be the established Islamic banking franchise that we are today.

He said that CIMB Islamic is aligned with the principles of value-based intermediation and continues to support the progress of individuals, businesses and society as a whole in a responsible and sustainable manner.

“We have made particular efforts to help the development of B40 communities and micro-entrepreneurs, and to continue to take advantage of innovation in the digital space. We are also continuously making progress in adopting best practices in Islamic banking, serving our broad profile of clients, including individuals, SMEs and businesses.

Jefferi Hashim, CEO of CIMB Investment Bank, said: “Our relationships and commitment to serving CIMB clients with the best targeted solutions remain our top priority and we would like to thank them as partners for these awards.

Jefferi said these accolades recognize CIMB’s continued leadership and excellence in the sukuk markets both nationally and globally.

“The awards are a testament to the continued trust and confidence in our fundraising and Islamic finance capabilities across a wide range of clients, industry sectors and geographies.”

CIMB Islamic has strived to help empower underserved communities and small businesses through micro-entrepreneurship development programs, as well as providing resources to prepare businesses to become halal ready and improve strategy in their sustainability journey through CIMB HalalBizReady and CIMB GreenBizReady respectively.

CIMB is ranked # 1 on Bloomberg’s Malaysian Islamic Ringgit and Bloomberg Global Sukuk Rankings, in aggregate volume since 2007.

To date, CIMB is also the largest sukuk arranger in Malaysia and the world’s largest sukuk arranger in the world.

Globally, CIMB has dominated the sukuk landscape and successfully raised nearly US $ 5 billion in total on three outstanding sovereign sukuk deals, in the first six months of 2021 alone.

CIMB successfully led Sukuk Wakala’s US $ 1.3 billion double-tranche bid from the Government of Malaysia, where the 10-year US $ 800 million sustainability tranche was the first dollar sustainability sukuk US to the world offered by a sovereign.

CIMB also launched and priced the Indonesian government’s US $ 3 billion global sukuk supply, including a US $ 750 million green sukuk tranche – the first ever green sukuk issue in 30 years and the longest in the world.

The UK government’s £ 500million trust certificates – its second sukuk issue – made CIMB the only Asian bank to win a new UK government mandate.

The sukuk’s £ 500million offering was more than double the size of the Sovereign’s first issue in 2014, accelerating the adoption of Islamic finance outside of the Islamic world.
