USAFA – It was a busy Saturday for the Colorado women’s tennis team as the women were in action in singles and doubles for Day 3 of the Bedford Cup.
In singles, both Antonia Balzert and Mila Stanojevic advance into their semi-final matches today to set up an all-buff clash in the Alpha West consolation draw final. Balzert advanced to the final after her opponent Sol O Lideadha of Idaho State withdrew with injury. Balzert will face Stanejovic after winning a difficult straight-set match against Hana Cho of Idaho State. Stanojevic won the first set 6-2, then lost the second 6-4 and had to come back and win a tie-breaking third set 10-8.
Also for Colorado, Betina tokac fell in the Bravo East main draw semifinal to Denver’s Britt Pursell 6-1, 7-6 (5). Ky Ecton also lost in their Bravo West consolation draw semi-final match. Ecton lost to Lola O Lideadha of Idaho State 6-0, 6-4. Besides, Ellen puzak was beaten in her singles match by JJ Chen of Montana State 6-4, 6-2 in the Charlie South Consolation draw.
Going to the doubles, Ecton and Puzak played the lights today by winning two matches to reach the Doubles Alpha West Consolation draw final. The duo beat Flodin / Stelse of the Air Force 6-4, then defeated Natal / Richterova of CSU 6-2. They will play in the western consolation final tomorrow against Oreshkina / Malinak of Wyoming, who beat Balzert and Stanojevic’s side earlier in the day 6-4.
Colorado has a busy final day tomorrow in the Bedford Cup with three doubles games and three singles games.
