A 57-year-old commercial driver, Muhammed Alpha, stabbed his wife, Hamsatu Muhammad, to death in the town of Lande in the Gombi local government area of Adamawa on January 1, 2022.
The public relations officer of the police in Adamawa, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident on Sunday.
According to Nguroje, the suspect stabbed his 40-year-old wife with a knife following an argument.
He said the argument led to their separation from more than 20 years of marriage.
Nguroje said that according to initial reports, after their separation, the wife moved to a house close to her husband’s.
“In order to repair her new bedroom, she (the late Hansatu) removed a zinc door from her old house to repair it in her new apartment.
“Angered by his action, the suspect used a knife and stabbed his wife and the mother of their eight children in the neck.
“As a result of her injury, she fell and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead,” Nguroje added.
He said the suspect was apprehended by the headquarters of the Gombi police division, following a report received from Malam Jauro Boka, a village chief in Lande.
State Police Commissioner Mohammed Barde has conducted a low-key investigation into the case and advised members of the public to avoid taking justice.
